Laura Rickenbacker: A Melodic Journey of Passion and Resilience
Laura Rickenbacker, an artist whose life has been defined by her deep-seated passion for music, embarked on her journey with a childhood fascination for The Beatles. At the tender age of nine, this enchantment led her to self-teach the guitar, bass, and drums. The tragic death of John Lennon in 1980 was a turning point that fueled her resolve to write and record her own songs, a pursuit she began with a Fostex X15 recorder purchased with her summer job savings.
Throughout her formative years, Laura consistently showcased her talents in talent shows, claiming the notable position of second place. Her dedication and burgeoning talent led her to acquire an AKAI MG1212 console, further enhancing her recording capabilities and creative output.
In 1996, Laura's musical aspirations took her to The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where she was accepted following a standout audition. A pinnacle moment was her 1997 performance at LIPA's inauguration, graced by the presence of the English Queen and Paul McCartney. Recognition of her songwriting prowess came in 1998 when she participated in a BBC1 Songwriting Masterclass with Graham Gouldman.
The new millennium saw Laura venture into Sweden, where she formed a band, recorded an EP, and secured a record deal. Despite her flourishing career, she made the bold decision to retire from music in 2002.
Fourteen years later, a fortuitous encounter with a musician friend rekindled her passion. Inspired by a concert featuring Alison Moyet, Laura returned to music with renewed vigor, relearning her instruments and mastering modern music production tools, including Logic Pro. Her comeback was marked by the release of "Lamborghini" in 2016.
The COVID-19 lockdown birthed a new chapter as Laura co-founded VioletCee with Jason Biggs. Their creative synergy resulted in the Christmas single "Star Glowing," produced by CJ Rhen. The project's success continued with "Hey Hey," produced by Simon Ellis. Laura's vocals brought the track to life, culminating in a visually stunning music video in 2024.
Laura Rickenbacker's narrative is one of unwavering dedication, innovation, and collaboration. Her journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of music and her indelible impact on the industry.
